The musical that was originally inspired by Elvis Presley's draft notice comes to Algonquin Regional High School this weekend.
With music written by composer Charles Strouse, Bye Bye Birdie, according to The Broadway Musical Home, is the story of Conrad Birdie's draft to the army.
"As a farewell, the rock and roll star is scheduled to sing Albert Peterson's 'One Last Kiss' and kiss a girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio live on the Ed Sullivan Show. However, Conrad's hip-thrusting makes more than one man in town uncomfortable, many of whom attempt to stop the show from happening. Meanwhile, Rosie wonders if Alfred, for whom she does everything, will ever leave his mother's shadow."
Brittany Price is one of the Dramahawks, playing Rose Alvarez, Albert's secretary—and girlfriend—in the show.
"I absolutely love playing this role," said Price, who said she plans on pursuing acting beyond high school. "Rose is such a dymanic character and is super fun to play. I actually admire many qualities about her, like her assertiveness."
Bye Bye Birdie is staged at the Algonquin auditorium on Dec. 6, 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
