Sex Toy Handouts: Where Are They Appropriate?

The WAAF Hill-Man Morning Shows producer and personality, Anthony “Spaz” Parziale, protesting Menino’s stance, dressed as a sperm at City Hall Plaza last month. Parziale said, “It’s the no-fun city with Mayor Menino. Trojan condoms wants to pass out free vibrators and there are women out there that want them. Who are you to stop them?”

Looking to promote and expand their business, Trojan, the brand name associated with condoms, has begun going from city to city handing out free sex toy products.

After stops in New York City in August, where they were initially met with opposition from City Hall and their vibrator giveaway was delayed a day due to lack of proper permits before approximately 4,000 freebies were handed out, and Washington, D.C., Trojan is bringing their free giveaway promotion to Boston.

Originally the sex toy manufacturer wanted to hand out sex toy products at City Hall Plaza, but officials quickly nixed that idea, saying that City Hall Plaza is a family oriented area and it wouldn’t be appropriate.

Now the Boston Globe is reporting that Trojan has found a new venue in South Boston: the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, where they will give out samples of two products from their pleasure carts while supplies lasts on Monday between noon and 4 p.m.

Both Trojan and the BCA say that there is nothing wrong with the event as it will be inside in a private building, and they will be checking IDs at door.

What do you think? Do you think an event like this is OK to promote and put on publicly? Or should there be some sort of guidelines that prevent an event like this to take place in the public eye? Tell us what you think in the comments section.
