William C. Harding, 28, of 17 Lakeside Dr., Shrewsbury , was arrested by Shrewsbury police and charged with assault and battery and three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. Judge Vito Virzi ordered Harding held on $1,000 bail and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Jan. 31. Police allege Harding assaulted his girlfriend by throwing a glass candle and a laptop computer at her and then struck her with his hands and with a furniture spindle. According to court documents, the incident occurred on Dec. 9, when police doing a well-being check arrived at a house on Lakeside Drive to find "obvious signs of struggle" including overturned furniture and blood stains but could not locate the woman they were asked to check on by her mother. Two days later, police located the woman they were seeking at UMass Memorial Hospital and after interviewing her issued an arrest warrant for Harding.
Edwin C. Hammond III, 46, of 77 Gage St., Apt. 3, Worcester, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Shrewsbury police to face a charge of presenting a false insurance claim. Judge Vito Virzi released Hammond on personal recognizance and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Jan. 14. Police allege Hammond claimed he was operating a car that struck a worker on a job site, but later admitted to police that person had fallen from a scaffolding but attempted to make the false claim because he did not have worker's compensation insurance.
Carlaine G. Verneque, 34, of 4 Williamsburg Ct., Shrewsbury, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Westborough police to face charges of operating with a suspended license and no inspection sticker. Judge Vito Virzi released her on personal recognizance and set a pretrial hearing for Jan. 14.
Nicole M. Parke, 24, of 57 Donna Rd., Bellingham, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Westborough police to face charges of uninsured motor vehicle and operating with a suspended license. Judge Vito Virzi dismissed both charges upon payment of $100 in court costs.
Brian D. Desimone, 26, of 121 Plymouth Rd., Bellingham, was arrested by Northborough police and charged with larceny over $250 and disorderly conduct. Judge Vito Virzi ordered him held on $500 cash bail and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Jan. 23. Police allege Desimone tried to steal $391.78 worth of Enfamil formula from Wegman's supermarket by concealing it at the bottom of a shopping cart in plastic grocery bags. According to a police report on the incident, when a cruiser arrived at the store, Desimone attempted to flee by running through the store and out an emergency exit, which sounded an alarm.
David P. Cox, 56, of 78 Silver Leaf Way Apt. 13, Marlborough, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Westborough police to face charges of unregistered motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Judge Vito Virzi found Cox not responsible on the first charge and dismissed the second upon payment of $200 in court costs.
Shauna M. Gibbs, 28, of 323 Prospect St., Apt. 1, Brockton, was arrested by Shrewsbury police and charged with assault and battery and malicious destruction of property over $250. Judge Vito Virzi dismissed all charges.
George M. Berberian, 23, of 38 Ideal Rd., Worcester, was summonsed to court on a complaint from Northborough police to face a charge of larceny over $250. Judge Vito Virzi ordered Berberian held on $1,200 cash bail and set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 17. Police allege that while an employee at Dick's Sporting Goods, Berberian took more than $1,800 worth of merchandise without authorization.
