The Chronicle of Philanthropy's, "How America Gives," study, released this week, compared the giving habits of taxpayers across regions and tax brackets.

The study shows that those making the most money in Northborough donated the smallest percentage of their income. The taxpayers reporting income of more than $200,000 in Northborough gave an average of 2 percent, or $5,470.

Northborough's giving rate, similar to the rest of the region's, was below the national average.

Other findings of the study?

Utah is the most generous state, while New Hampshire is the stingiest. Providence, RI, is rock bottom.

Rich people who live in wealthy, relatively homogeneous enclaves (think, Newton) give a smaller share of their incomes to charity than rich people who live in diverse communities (Cambridge).

People who live in politically conservative "red states" are more generous than those in liberal or "blue states."
