A trolley trail that once ran through the towns of Northborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough could become a bike and hiking path.
While it is in its infancy, Northborough's trails committee and planners are working with the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission to create a multi-use trail/bike path that would run the length of the former Boston Air Line Trail (BWALT)
"It’s an abandoned trolley line and unfortunately in all three of the towns, some of the trolley line now has parking lots and roads on it," said Town Planner Kathy Joubert.
This old trolley route runs along what is now Route 9 between the ramp heading westbound and the Northborough Crossing/Avalon Bay land, cutting across Route 20 at the paved access roadway to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation salt sheds.
"We are in the very early stages of this project," said Joubert.
