Telephone Poles Put Back in the Wrong Place During Downtown Construction

Downtown Improvement Project, Main Street, Northborough

First, some wondered what was going to happen to the beatiful stones from the wall in front of Trinity Church after it was dismantled as part of the Downtown Improvement Project presently happening in and around the center of Northborough. That has been reconstructed, as promised.

Northborough Patch readers have now been wondering, "What's happening with the telephone poles in front of the church?"

One reader wrote, "I rather suspect someone did a bad measuring job for the location of the new rock wall in front of the church parking lot. They just relocated the new telephone poles so that they are in the curb line. It's like there is not enough room for the sidewalk now! Why they did not relocate that very lovely and very expensive wall four feet further north is beyond my comprehension."

Town Engineer Fred Litchfield said it is his understanding that while the wall is in the correct place, "the poles do not seem to be."

"I do not know exactly why but believe there will be some adjustments on a couple of the recently installed poles in front of the church," said Litchfield. "There are several factors to be considered when installing new poles, such as the angle of the wires, the span between poles and underground utilities like sewer, water, drain and gas lines and sometimes they just do not get it right the first time."
