Michael Buck and Ben Rutan, 2013 graduates of Algonquin Regional High School, have been awarded this year’s AVM Scholarships in recognition of their outstanding talent and active participation in choral music through high school.

Both vocalists were valued participants in the AVM Apprentice Singers Program during the 2011-12 season and also as members of Algonquin HS Chamber Singers in their May 2013 concert collaboration with Assabet Valley Mastersingers. In addition, Rutan several years ago sang the role of Youth in the AVM concert featuring Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

Since May of 1978, Assabet Valley Mastersingers under the direction of Founder
and Artistic Director Robert P. Eaton has reliably presented quality choral music to appreciative audiences in Central Massachusetts. For the past eight years the Apprentice Singer Program has offered talented and motivated high school choral students the opportunity to prepare and perform classic masterworks in concert with mature vocalists, professional soloists, and instrumentalists. Dr. Eaton’s impressive record as a longtime educator, adjudicator, and award-winning conductor of high school choirs reflects his enthusiasm for creating significant opportunities for eager choral students.

The AVM Apprentice Singer Program assigns no dues, and music is provided at no cost.
