While the steamy weather may have you wishing you could head out to the Splash Pad with the kids, keep in mind that it's not open until June 22. You can still enjoy Assabet Park until that date, of course, but you'd be standing over some dry spouts in the ground sadly hoping for the spray to erupt.
As Northborough's Recreation Department writes on its website,"The Splash Pad is of one our most popular spots in Northborough for toddlers and preschoolers! The Splash Pad is adjacent to the toddler playground at Assabet Park. Roughly the same dimensions as a basketball court, it offers several different water features such as bubblers, misters, and geysers to delight babies to preschool-aged kids. As it is on an asphalt surface, we recommend water shoes to protect sensitive toes. Bring your beach chair and a picnic lunch and enjoy the day while your little ones run and play in the water! The Splash Pad is open to the public for no charge, as it is no longer monitored by Recreation staff. The Splash Pad will not be open in inclement weather. Don’t forget your water toys!"
Hours for the Splash Pad are noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Lake Chauncy at 60 Lyman St. in Westborough opens on June 14, and passes are now on sale at the Recreation Department. "Lake Chauncy is a great place to toss a frisbee, build sand castles, or just relax with the sand between your toes. Family time well spent...right in your backyard!"
Note that the beach personnel at Lake Chauncy are Red Cross certified, and the beach includes a playground, shade, picnic tables, and bath and changing facilities.
Passes are available to Northborough and Westborough residents only, and can be purchased at the Westborough Recreation Department. Bring proof of residency. For more information call 508-366-3066.
Lake Chauncy is open June 14 through Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A family beach pass costs $70, and individual is $35. Day passes are also available for $2. Passes are available at the gate once the beach is open.
Signups are also open for a trip to Nantucket this summer. Hosted by the Rec. Department, participants depart on a luxury Silver Fox motor coach from the Melican Middle School at 7 a.m. on Aug. 17, and return that evening. The coach brings you to the Nantucket Ferry dock in Hyannis, and you'll set sail at 9:20 a.m.
The day offers you time to explore the island and its shops, galleries, architecture and overall charm.
The trip is $79 per person.
