Last week, a local woman, Sandra Sardam, made the move to senior housing. She lost her home on East Main Street, where she had lived for decades, to foreclosure.
Like many, Sardam has pets. In fact, seven cats. Allowed to take one to her new home, she was left to find homes for six.
Many readers have asked for an update. Sardam said that those six cats still need homes.
For now, local animal advocate and rescuer Cathy Staniunis is sheltering the felines.
"I know Cathy from church," said Sardam, "and she is keeping them on her property. Over her garage is a studio apartment where her mom used to live. She leaves the radio on for them, it's clean, there's air conditioning and she loves animals as much as I do. I'm still looking for homes for them. Goldie and CJ sleep together and they are like two peas in a pod, so I hope whoever takes them can take them together. It's an amazing relationship they have."
Sardam said she has gotten a few inquiries that she is responding to; one person who asked she "didn't feel comfortable adopting to."
"I'm up to my ears in boxes here at the new place," said Sardam. "The cats are living better than me now. I have so many boxes I can't even find my Tylenol."
Anyone who may be interested in adopting or fostering the cats should call Sardam at 508-335-1958.
