This feature on Northborough Patch lists the latest health inspections conducted by the town's Health Agent Jamie Terry. Inspections are conducted regularly, and are unannounced visits.
It is important to note that Terry has often stressed that it is very rare for an establishment to always receive a perfect inspection score.
Berberian Farms received a great inspection on May 8, with no critical violations. Terry noted, in particular, that the use of a new steel table on the premises was working well, and kept very clean.
The Friday night fish and chips event at Chet's, otherwise known as "The Battered Fish," received no critical violations, as well. Employees wore gloves, the dish machine was at the proper strength, and the clam and fish chowders were at the proper temperatures. The inspection was on May 10.
Zem Han encountered six critical violations during an inspection on May 13. Terry noted violations that included rags not stored in sanitizer solution, employees without hairnets or hats, sponges being used, inadequate sanitizer strength and a dish machine with an inadequate temperature. Terry also noted that people had been smoking in the back room. "Good" marks included the fridge at the right temperature and raw meats stored correctly. Terry will inspect again in one to two weeks.
Freshway Pizza received a much improved inspection of its last one, which was on Feb. 19. During this follow up, Freshway received one critical violation, which involved a hand sink that was not accessible. Violations that were noted months earlier, such as proper pizza temperatures and dip well cleanliness, were all rectified.
Earlier in April, Bistro Limoncello, too had garnered six critical violations. In a followup inspection on May 14, Terry reported that "all violations have been rectified, and the establishment is markedly improved."
Starbucks on May 14 earned a perfect inspection, with no critical violations and a note from Terry that read, "The entire establishment is extremely well-kept, clean and very organized. Great Job!" The inspection notes a well organized pastry shelf, well-dated refrigerator and a clean ice machine.
And China Moon has decided to sell, but also earned a much-improved inspection this time around. On May 14, Terry found but one critical violation, which involved sanitizer strength that was inadequate. China Moon had been plagued with some previous less-than-satisfactory inspections. This time, all the employees wore hats, items were well stored, the rice sat at the correct temperature and Terry noted, "the establishment shows excellent improvement on cleanliness."
The Proctor School received no critical violations during its inspection on May 14. This "good inspection," including a milk cooler at the proper temperature, and an establishment that is "extremely clean and maintained."
TJ Maxx, too, also received an inspection with no violations on May 14. "Great job," wrote Terry. Over at the Paper Store, Terry found a few expired items that were removed immediately, and the inspection warranted one critical violation. on May 14. The GNC store had no violations during an inspection on the same day.
EMS received one critical mark on its inspection May 14, which involved some expired Clif Bars.
Gentile's Bakery received three critical violations during its inspection on May 22. These violations included seeing evidence of mice in the establishment, a bathroom that was not thoroughly clean and a faulty three bay sink that kicks back water into the other bays. As this is mainly a wholesale business providing bread to area restaurants, health department notified Department of Public Health, which has since followed up multiple times.
