On Sunday afternoon, families with school-aged kids attending Northborough public schools received a message from Superintendent of Schools Charles Gobron. Welcoming the students back from spring vacation, he assured them that there would be resources available to offer support in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy.
"All of us have been deeply affected by this past week's very emotional events surrounding the Boston Marathon," wrote Gobron. "Children react to traumatic events in many different ways, and I want to assure all parents that we are prepared to respond in an age appropriate manner as students return to school tomorrow."
Gobron said all ten schools would have resources in place, including counselors and support staff to assist students as they head back from April vacation.
"I know many of us benefit from the structure of our daily routines in school," he said, "and it will be good to return to a regular schedule on Monday. At this time, it also important for all of us to recognize that many true heroes emerged during this crisis. We want to acknowledge the humanitarian efforts of our police, fire, and emergency care providers, as well as neighbors who went out of their way to help those in need."
A list of resources for parents is available in the "families" section of the website.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact any of the school principals or me if we can be of assistance to you.
