A Canadian man facing charges that he attempted to rape a woman in Northborough was in the area to attend a conference in Marlborough co-hosted by the Massachusetts Adolescent Sex Offender Coalition and Massachusetts Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, according to the Boston Herald.

Tyler Buttle, 31, 2901 Greenfield Rd., Inverary, Ontario, was charged on Friday with two counts of indecent assault and battery and assault with intent to rape. Buttle is accused of assaulting a woman he had driven home from the conference, bringing her to a parking lot in Northborough, where she escaped and ran for help.

The Herald spoke to the president at the Canadian engineering company that employs Buttle, who said that he was aware that a problem had happened, but that it was out of character for Buttle.  Buttle will be back in court on Wednesday.
