Northborough police responded to another incident of breaking and entering that involved the theft of copper from an unoccupied building.
On Friday, July 27, at approximately 8:44 a.m., Northborough police took a report of breaking and entering into an unoccupied building on Country Candle Lane. A new residence under construction, the perpretrator cut out and stole the copper piping from within the building.
There have been several similar reports during the last couple of weeks involving copper theft in town, said police.
Although it may be determined that the incidents are connected, police say they are actively investigating the incidents separately.
"The thieves are entering homes that appear to be abandoned, unoccupied or in a stage of foreclosure, and removing the copper piping," said police. "The price of scrap copper is high, and many police agencies in the area are reporting similar incidents with similar frequency."
Police are asking the public to keep an eye on these types of houses and buildings, and urged to report any suspicious activity.
Northborough police are following several leads.
