Anthony Lorenzi of Northborough spent spring break serving others as part of James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break program. Lorenzi, a junior international business and Modern Foreign Languages major, traveled to Louisville, KY to volunteer at Refugee Resettlement-KY.
In an effort to provide educational services to refugees in Louisville, KY, the JMU students participated in the Refugee Resettlement trip and assisted in mentoring young refugees on their school campus. By working one-on-one with each refugee, students became mentors and had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Louisville culture.
The student-led ASB trips, scheduled for March 2-9, are each based on a social issue such as homelessness, environmentalism or community wellness. Over 300 students embarked on 30 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spend the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.
